SWAROVSKI:
22 WAYS TO SAY BLACK

TYPOLOGY
exhibition/publication

YEAR
2010

Searching for a charitable endeavor with a fashion component, during Stephen Todd’s tenure as consultant Director Branding & Communication, Swarovski created 22 Ways to Say Black, an auction, book and series of events benefitting the American Cancer Society and La ligue nationale contre le cancer in France, in partnership with renowned auction house, Phillips de Pury & Co. Working with the curator-in-chief of the Fashion and Textiles collection at the Louvre’s Musée des Arts Décoratifs, 22 one-of-a-kind dresses were commisssioned by such designers as Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, Missoni, and Giorgio Armani Privé. A launch event during Spring-Summer 2010 Haute Couture week in Paris showcased the directional, hard-bound auction catalogue (with guest art direction by Hector Castro and Josh Hight) to bring a new level of elegance to the medium. The book is available on three continents, with a print run double the standard allotment.
